Driver arrested after a St. Petersburg crash seriously injured an 11-year-old girl

On Monday, April 15, 2024, at approximately 8:59 a.m., a traffic officer conducted a traffic stop on 1st Avenue South just east of 34th Street South on a Mercedes SUV.

The driver sped up and fled from the officer and ran a red light on 31st Street South. The driver crashed into a Honda Minivan that was southbound on 31st Street South. 

The driver of the Honda Minivan was transported to the trauma Center at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital. An 11-year-old girl was an occupant in the Honda Minivan and transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver, 19-year-old Ajaye Morrer was arrested and charged with the following: 

– 2 counts of Leaving the Scene of a Crash causing Serious Bodily Injury 
– Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding


It has been almost 13 years since the inception of IONTB.
