Driver arrested for DUI after injuring motorcyclists in Largo crash, one critically

Officers from the Largo Police Department responded to a vehicle crash the occurred at approximately 5:42 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2022.

The crash, involving a motorcyclist, occurred in the intersection of Seminole Blvd and 8th Ave SE. According to investigators, the driver of a Toyota Tacoma, 67 year-old Kevin Cox of Largo, was traveling northbound and attempted to make a left turn to head westbound 8th Ave SW. 

The Toyota struck a southbound traveling 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle with a male and female occupant. Both motorcycle occupants were transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for treatment of their injuries.

The male driver is in critical condition, while the female passenger is in stable condition.

Cox sustained no injuries, however he exhibited signs of impairment, according to officers.  A DUI investigation was conducted and he was was placed in custody for DUI – Serious Bodily injury. 

According to arrest documents, Cox was unable to stand on his own and fell to the ground. His medical blood alcohol level, once transported to the hospital, was .308 nearly four times the legal limit for DUI in Florida.
