Driver Charged After Largo Crash Seriously Injures Juvenile Passengers

LARGO — A driver faces multiple charges following a single-vehicle crash that seriously injured him and three juvenile passengers Sunday evening, according to the Largo Police Department.

Police received reports of the crash at 3090 Dryer Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. on July 26. A preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound at a high speed when the driver lost control.

All four occupants were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries. Police believe impairment was a factor in the crash.

The driver, 31-year-old Dezmond Sanford, is being charged with two counts of DUI causing serious bodily injury and three counts of child neglect.

Sanford and two passengers remained hospitalized as of Monday’s news release. The third juvenile was released. Police said Sanford will be taken to the Pinellas County Jail after his release from the hospital.

The investigation remains active, and no additional details are currently available.
