A St. Petersburg man who was previously arrested on a misdemeanor indecent exposure charge is now facing two felony child neglect charges after investigators determined he allegedly left two young children alone in an apartment while the incident occurred outside.
Jonathan Nemeth, 44, was arrested Tuesday, July 28, on two counts of Neglect of a Child, with one count filed for each child. The charges stem from the same investigation that resulted in his July 14 arrest for Exposure of Sexual Organs.
According to arrest affidavits, the incident occurred at approximately 2:28 a.m. on July 14 at an apartment complex in the 5800 block of 37th Avenue North in St. Petersburg.
Police say a witness observed Nemeth outside the apartment complex with his pants down while inserting a white sex toy into his anus. The witness confronted him, and Nemeth left the area. According to the affidavit, after being advised of his rights, Nemeth admitted to exposing himself in public and later told officers he liked being naked in public.
During the subsequent investigation, detectives determined that two boys, ages 6 and 8, had allegedly been left alone inside Nemeth’s apartment beginning at approximately 9 p.m. while he went outside. Investigators allege the children remained unattended until the incident occurred around 2:28 a.m.
As a result, prosecutors filed two felony counts of child neglect, alleging Nemeth willfully or through culpable negligence failed to make a reasonable effort to protect the children from abuse, neglect, or exploitation by another person. One count was filed for each child. The affidavit also states investigators believe Nemeth has had prior involvement involving similar acts in Pinellas County since December 2025.
Court records show Nemeth was initially arrested on the misdemeanor indecent exposure charge on July 14. He was taken into custody again on July 28 after the investigation resulted in the two felony child neglect charges.
The case remains pending in Pinellas County Court.
