Driver dead after ejected from van in rollover crash on I-275 in St. Petersburg

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.

A 77 year-old male from St. Petersburg was operating a van southbound on I-275, south of Gandy Boulevard, in the outside lane.

For unknown reason, the driver lost control of the vehicle which departed the roadway, entered the west shoulder, collided with two concrete light poles and a traffic sign before overturning.

Troopers say the unrestrained driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
