Driver killed in crash at Tom Stuart Causeway and Duhme Road

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred near the intersection of the Tom Stuart Causeway and Duhme Road.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:37 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021.

Troopers say that a pickup truck was traveling southbound on Duhme Road in the outside lane along the exit leading to the Tom Stuart Causeway.

A press release from FHP indicated that the driver, a 54 year-old male from Largo, suffered a medical emergency, lost control of the vehicle which departed the roadway, entered the shoulder, and collided with a guardrail, curb and traffic sign.

The vehicle was redirected, traveled back across the Tom Stuart Causeway entered the outside shoulder where the vehicle collided with a fence and light pole before coming to final rest.

The passenger, a 55 year-old male was transported to the hospital with what troopers are calling minor injuries. The driver was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The investigation continues
