Driver runs red light, leads to crash killing a motorcyclist on Ulmerton Road

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is continuing their investigation into a fatal crash that killed a motorcyclist on Ulmerton Road.

The crash occurred at the intersection of 49th Street N and Ulmerton Road on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at approximately 5:37 a.m.

According to troopers, 57 year-old Kathryn Jackson of Treasure Island was traveling northbound in a 2014 Volkswagon Jetta on 49th Street N in the inside lane approaching Ulmerton Road. Jackson failed to stop for a steady red left turn signal and collided with a motorcycle.

The helmeted motorcyclist, 72 year-old Lucas Scholing of Safety Harbor, was operating a 2007 Honda motorcycle southbound on 49th Street in the left turn lane. He was struck while attempting to turn left at the intersection.

Scholing was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he died from his injuries.

Jackson was citied for failing to stop a red light.
