A crash involving a FHP patrol vehicle occurred as troopers were on-scene investigating and protecting an earlier crash scene on US-19 south of Hammock Pine Boulevard. The patrol vehicle, a 2017 Dodge Charger, was parked with emergency lights activated in the inside northbound lane of US-19 south of Hammock Pine Boulevard.
At approximately 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, 47 year-old Tamico Gilbert of Tarpon Springs was traveling northbound in a 2021 Toyota Highlander. According to troopers, Gilbert failed to slow, stop or change lanes and collided with the patrol vehicle.
The impact propelled the patrol car forward and it collided with the Trooper standing ahead of the vehicle. The Trooper was thrown to the ground by the impact and suffered minor injuries. Following the crash, the Toyota rotated to final rest across the northbound lanes of US-19 while the patrol car came to rest atop the raised concrete median, closing the northbound lanes until 4:20 a.m.Â
Gilbert suffered minor injuries and was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. After his release from the hospital he was arrested by FHP Troopers for DUI, DUI Injury and DUI Property Damage and delivered to the Pinellas County Jail.
