Fedex Driver Killed in Crash Eastbound I-4 East of US-301

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a fatality crash on I-4 in Hillsborough County.

The crash occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.

According to troopers, a Fedex truck suffered a left front tire blow out on I-4 east of US-301.  The Fedex truck collided with a 2012 Chevy Volt before overturning into the median and striking a guardrail.

The 22 year-old male Fedex driver, Lazaro Villarreal-Santana of Tampa, died as a result of injuries in the crash.  Neither the driver of the Volt nor her passenger were seriously injured and refused transport to the hospital.

Eastbound I-4 is closed except for the outside shoulder.

FHP reports that Villarreal-Santana was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
