FHP investigating fatal crash in Hillsborough County, vehicle submerged

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are currently on-scene of a fatality crash. The crash occurred on February 22, 2020, at 5:05 p.m.

Troopers responded to a three vehicle fatal crash on SR-60 (Adamo Drive) on the bridge spanning the Tampa Bypass Canal, just east of Orient Road.

Following the initial collision, one of the vehicles, a 2017 Toyota Camry traveled into the canal and submerged.

Current information indicates that one person is deceased, a 43 year-old male from Tampa, within the submerged vehicle. It is not known why the driver of the Camry crossed the center grass median to travel the wrong way and crash into the concrete barrier wall.

The occupants in the other two vehicle all suffered minor injuries.

SR-60 is closed in both directions at the bridge.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
