According to deputies, at about 1:49 p.m. on July 5, 2018, Deputy Dustin Hansen was conducting beach patrol behind 17250 Gulf Boulevard, on North Redington Beach, when he observed two people dragging an unresponsive man from the water towards the beach.

The victim later identified as 63-year-old Daniel Mikos was unresponsive and not breathing.

Godinez and Minamyer began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the victim.

Deputy Hansen called for paramedics and assisted with back blows when the Mikos became responsive coughing and choking on seawater.

Mikos was transported to Largo Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told deputies that Mikos was by himself on the beach when he walked about 25 feet out into the water and disappeared. A concerned citizen noticed that Mikos had not resurfaced and started yelling for help.
