Head-on Collision Kills Two on Gunn Highway in Odessa

Update 5:45 p.m.

At approximately 12:46 p.m. on December 16, 2017, 70 year-old Terry Lee Bronschidle of Tampa, Fl was operating his 2017 red Chevy Traverse southbound on Gunn
Highway North of Wayne Road.

Spencer Theodore Schertt-Barnes, age 25 of Odessa, was driving a black 1999 Ford Ranger northbound on Gunn Highway north of Wayne Road.  Schertt-Barnes’ front seat passenger was 8 year-old Callie Fowler.

According to investigators, Terry Lee Bronschidle entered the northbound lane causing the Chevy Traverse to strike the Ford Ranger head on.

Both Terry Lee Bronschidle and Spencer Theodore Schertt-Barnes were pronounced deceased at the scene by medics from the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.  Callie Fowler was transported to a local area Hospital where she is in critical condition.  All parties were restrained at the time of the crash.  All parties next of kin have been notified.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a head-on collision with two fatalities on Gunn Highway near the Keystone Recreation Center in Odessa. The approximate address is 17928 Gunn Hwy.

A minor child was transported to a local hospital for treatment and his/her condition is currently unknown. Gunn Highway is currently closed in both directions. This is an active investigation and a developing scene.  Avoid the area.
