Investigation Continues After Woman Drives Car Over Gulfport Seawall

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018, Officers from the Gulfport Police Departments were dispatched to the area of 49th St S and 31st Ave S.

The response was in reference a 911 call that a vehicle travelled off the road, over a seawall, and into the water.

The vehicle, a silver 2004 Toyota Highlander was driven by a 64 year old female who resides locally to that area.

According to police, the vehicle was travelling southbound on 49th St S at a high rate of speed. 49th St S dead ends at the water line.

The vehicle ended up approximately 50 feet away from the seawall in approximately 3 feet of water.

A local resident, who has not been identified as of yet, assisted the driver from the vehicle and onto land.

Officers believe that the driver may have been suffering from a medical issue and she has since been transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for an evaluation.

There did not appear to be any significant injuries.

Officers do not believe alcohol is a factor in this crash.
