An adult man carrying a knife was fatally shot by Pasco County deputies outside a business in the Little Road area of Hudson around noon on Friday, October 2, 2026, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to reports of an agitated man outside the business. When they arrived, the business requested that deputies trespass him from the property.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies approached the man and observed him holding a knife. Deputies attempted to speak with him and made several unsuccessful attempts at verbal de-escalation.
The Sheriff’s Office said the man then confronted deputies while holding the knife, and deputies shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His identity has not been released. Authorities said there is no threat to public safety.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting under the Sheriff’s Office’s standard protocol. The deputies who fired their weapons have been placed on paid administrative leave pursuant to agency policy.
The Sheriff’s Office released a portion of a deputy’s body camera footage and a news conference on its Facebook page. The agency cautioned that the footage contains sensitive content.
The investigation remains ongoing.
