TAMPA — A woman in her early 70s died after being shot inside a vehicle on East Fowler Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026, according to Tampa Police.
Officers responded to a report of a fatal shooting in the 4100 block of East Fowler Avenue. Preliminary information indicates a man and woman, both in their early 70s and known to each other, were traveling along the roadway when the man, who was driving, fired a gun.
The driver then pulled into a business parking lot and stopped the vehicle, police said.
The woman, who was a passenger, was struck in the upper body and died at the scene.
Police took the man into custody. Investigators are interviewing him to determine what led to the shooting. The gun was secured and collected as evidence.
Authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains in its early stages. Additional information will be released as the investigation allows.
