Man critically injured in crash on Belcher Road in Palm Harbor

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a crash that left a driver with life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the intersection of Belcher Road and Nebraska Avenue in Palm Harbor.

According to Troopers, a 55 year-old male from Clearwater was driving his Pontiac sedan northbound on Belcher Road in the left turn lane approaching Nebraska Avenue.

A second vehicle, a pickup truck driven by a 26 year-old male from Virginia Beach, was traveling southbound on Belcher Road and struck the Pontiac at the intersection. According to the preliminary report from FHP, the driver of the Pontiac turned left into the path of the pickup truck.

The Pontiac, struck on its right side, rotated to the shoulder and collided with the New Horizons Day School sign.

The driver of the Pontiac was flown from the scene to a local trauma center with critical life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say the driver of the pickup truck and his 26 year-old male passenger suffered only minor injuries. Both occupants of the pickup truck reportedly were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The driver of the Pontiac was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to investigators.
