Motorcyclist killed in crash on Roosevelt Boulevard in St. Petersburg

Investigators from the St. Petersburg Police continue to investigate a crash that involved two vehicles and one motorcycle.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:05 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 on Roosevelt Boulevard under the I-275 overpass.

35 year-old Juan Valenci was driving in an SUV on I-275 S, took Exit 30 and was trying to merge onto Roosevelt Blvd. N when he struck a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle driven by 31 year-old Edwin V. Colon of St. Petersburg.

Colon was traveling west on Roosevelt Blvd. N when Valenci crossed in front of his motorcycle.  Colon was not able to avoid Valenci’s Rav4 and crashed into the driver side of the SUV.

Colon was wearing a helmet, but was pronounced dead on scene by St Petersburg Fire Rescue.

In a separate crash, another vehicle hit Colon’s motorcycle after the fatal crash.

There was a third (minor) collision where one vehicle rear-ended another as drivers tried to navigate around the crash.

The investigations into each of the crashes are ongoing.
