Northbound I-275 in St. Petersburg closed due to serious injury crash

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a serious injury crash on northbound I-275 at the 17MM (just south of 54th Avenue South) involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019.

According to troopers, the 56 year-old male motorcyclist was operating a 2002 Honda northbound on I-275 near milepost 17.

As traffic slowed, the vehicle behind the motorcyclist failed to slow and collided with the rear of the motorcycle. That vehicle, a 2020 Chevy Malibu, that struck the motorcyclist was operated by 58 year-old Diane Caraker of Leverett, Massachusetts.

The impact of the collision propelled the motorcycle into a 2012 Nissan Rogue.

The motorcyclist was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with critical injuries.

Charges are pending.
