Palm Harbor Man Dies in Crash on I-275 Approaching the Howard Frankland Bridge

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a crash that claimed the life of a 20 year-old Palm Harbor man.

The crash occurred on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at approximately 6:41 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-275 near 4th Street N.

FHP reports that 20 year-old Gabriel A. Matthews was driving a 2002 Chevy Cavalier when his left rear tire failed as he passed 4th Street.  This resulted in him losing control of the Chevy, departing the roadway into the shoulder, and colliding with a overhead sign pole.

Matthews was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he died from his injuries.
