Palm Harbor Man Involved in Fiery Rollover Crash in Naples That Left Three Seriously Injured
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continues to investigate a serious bodily injury crash in Naples. The crash occurred at approximately 3:38 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018.
Brian Belony, age 18 of Naples, Florida, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry eastbound in the left turn lane of US 41 before a green traffic signal at Whistlers Cove Circle.
Palm Harbor resident, 42 year-old Andre Bandeira, was driving westbound in a 2017 Jeep Wrangler in the center lane of US 41 before Whistlers Cove Circle and a green traffic signal.
Belony reportedly made a left turn and struck the front of Bandeira’s Jeep. The Jeep rotated, stuck a pedestrian traffic signal, and a guardrail.
The Jeep ultimately overturned ejecting a passenger, 41 year-old Joseph Bandeira of Naples, onto the northwest grass shoulder.
The Jeep caught fire after coming to rest of its left side in the shoulder next to a water filled ditch.
Joseph Bandeira and the other passenger in the Jeep, 72 year-old John Gonzalez of Chatham, NJ were both seriously injured and transported to Naples Community Hospital. Andre Bandeira escaped with minor injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, Brian Belony was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Naples Community Hospital. His passenger, a 17 year-old Naples resident, was not injured in the crash. Neither occupant in the Toyota was reportedly wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
According to FHP, the ejected passenger, Joseph Bandeira was also not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol did not appear to have played a role in the crash and charges are listed as “pending further investigation.”
