Passenger on motorcycle killed in crash on I-275 in St. Petersburg

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a fatality crash involving a motorcyclist.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

The motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-275 in the inside lane approaching Gandy Boulevard. It was operated by a 44 year-old male from Belle Fourche, South Dakota. The passenger on the motorcycle was a 49 year-old female from Ft. Myers.

According to troopers, an SUV traveling ahead of the motorcycle was slowing for other traffic. The motorcyclist failed to slow or stop and, as a result, the motorcycle collided with the rear of the SUV.

Both occupants of the motorcycle were ejected onto the roadway following the collision.

The passenger was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in grave condition where she died of her injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle was also transported to Bayfront Hospital and suffered serious injuries.

None of the occupants of the SUV were injured according to troopers.
