Pedestrian struck and killed crossing Central Avenue in St. Petersburg

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department are currently investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2022 in the 1600 block of Central Avenue.

Investigators say that a driver was operating a white Chevrolet SUV westbound on Central Avenue. The pedestrian, identified as 34 year-old Meghan Prettyman of Gainesville, was walking northbound, crossing mid-block in the 1600 block of Central Avenue.

She was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where she was later died from her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperative with the investigation and investigators say there were no signs of impairment on the driver. The roadway was closed during the investigation, but has since been reopened.
