Pedestrian Struck and Killed in St. Petersburg Wednesday Evening

Reginald William Pittman was killed while attempting to cross 34th Street N in St. Petersburg.

Investigators from the St. Petersburg Police responded to the scene of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident that left 47 year-old Reginald William Pittman dead.

It occurred on 34th Street N. near 35th Av N. just before 10 p.m. on Wedesday, February 8, 2018.

A 22 year-old male was driving a 2009 Honda Accord southbound in the southbound center lane of 34th Street North.

Pittman was crossing 34th Street North from east to west, mid-block, against oncoming northbound and southbound traffic.

Pittman crossed the raised median and entered the southbound lanes, directly in front of the Accord.  The driver was unable to stop or swerve, due to other southbound traffic, and struck the Pittman with the front of his vehicle.

Pittman was thrown up onto and then over Williams’ vehicle and came to rest in the roadway.

Pittman was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the crash.  Police say that neither alcohol nor other chemical impairment was a factor for the driver and there are no criminal charges expected.

The investigation is ongoing.

34th Street North was closed in both directions between 33rd Ave. N. and 37th Ave.N. for several hours during the investigation.
