Pinellas Deputies Arrest Man For Attempted Murder in Unincorporated St. Petersburg
According to detectives, at about 2:16 p.m. on July 4, 2018, deputies were called to the area of 5280 Main Street North, unincorporated St. Petersburg, for a report of gun shots heard in the area.
When deputies arrived they made contact with the victim, 40-year-old Johnny Lowe. Lowe informed deputies that he was walking westbound on 52nd Avenue North, when he saw a silver SUV pull up and stop along the railroad tracks just west of Main Street N and 52 Avenue North.
Lowe told deputies he started walking along the east side of the railroad tracks when a black male subject exited the SUV with a handgun and started firing the gun north towards 54th Avenue North.
Lowe said he was about 10 to 15 yards away from the subject when he turned around to walk away from the gunfire.
Lowe said the subject turned towards him and asked him “where are you going motherf**ker.” Lowe said the subject re-loaded his firearm, pointed the gun at him and fired three rounds in his direction.
Lowe said he fled from the subject south towards Main Street North and was not injured.
Deputies responded to the railroad tracks where the incident occurred however the SUV was no longer present. Deputies did locate several spent shell casings at the scene.
Deputies circulated the area and found a silver 2018 Land Rover SUV that matched the description Lowe provided. The Land Rover was parked a few blocks away at 5070 Duvall Circle. Deputies identified the owner of the vehicle as 26-year-old Quinton Cheatham.
Deputies tried making contact with Cheatham at his apartment but he was uncooperative and he refused to come out and speak with deputies.
Through various investigative techniques, deputies were able to positively identify Cheatham as the suspect.
Deputies obtained an arrest warrant and detectives took Cheatham into custody at about 8:10 p.m. on July 5, 2018.
Cheatham was transported to the Pinellas County Jail where he was charged with Felony Attempted Murder.
The investigation continues.
