24 year-old Angel Martinez facing charges in the shooting death of Ricky Garland

Arrest Made in Murder at Andrea Cove Motel in Unincorporated Largo

Pinellas County Deputies were dispatched to the Andrea Cove Motel located at 10464 106th Avenue at approximately 10:47 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 after receiving reports of a person shot.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim, identified as 47-year-old Ricky
Garland, lying in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Garland was transported to Largo Medical Center Hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Mr. Garland died of his injuries approximately 20 minutes later.

As a result of this homicide, detectives from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 24 year-old Angel Enrigue Martinez, aka Premo.  Martinez was arrested in the area of 22nd Avenue and 19th Street South in St Petersburg on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at approximately 3:16 p.m.  He has been charged with felony second degree murder for the death of Ricky Garland

According to detectives, 24-year-old Angel Martinez and 23-year-old Larrisha Williams were in a dating relationship. On the night of the murder, Martinez, Williams, and her two children were seen parked in a Gold Monte Carlo next to the parking lot at the Andrea Cove Motel.

An apparent argument had taken place between Martinez and Williams. Martinez was observed by a witness to have a black and red handgun on his lap. Detectives say that during the course of the argument, Martinez carried the two children to William’s residence.  When Martinez returned to the vehicle, he reportedly shot Garland who was in the parking lot. Martinez then fled the scene in the Monte Carlo at a high rate of speed.

Detectives say Williams left her two young children alone in the apartment on the night of the murder and was charged on May 25th 2017 for two counts of felony child neglect.

According to court records, cell phone records indicate that Martinez called the owner of the Monte Carlo approximately 46 minutes after the shooting. He told the owner that he, “Did not want it to fall back on him because something really bag happened” referring to the Gold Monte Carlo he borrowed.

No information was provided regarding a motive for the shooting for if Martinez and Garland knew each other.

A GoFundMe site has been set up to assist in funeral costs for Ricky Garland.
