Updated: May 27, 2017

Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested 32 year-old Gary Gibeault of 7525 83rd Street N in SeminoleĀ for Aggravated Child Abuse after the child was found with multiple bone fractures.

Detectives began their investigation on May 10, 2017, after the 8-month-old child was taken to a local hospital with multiple bone fractures to her leg.

According to detectives, the victim was in the care of Gibeault, at the time of the incident at approximately 6 p.m. on May 9, 2017. The victim’s injuries were reported late on May 10, 2017, when the mother discovered the injuries.

During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Gibeault had a warrant for his arrest for Violation of Probation on a Possession of Cocaine charge.

Gibeault was arrested on May 13, 2017 for the warrant.

On May 17, 2017, Detectives interviewed Gibeault at the Pinellas County Jail. Gibeault admitted to detectives that he caused the injury to the child but claimed it was an accident. He informed detectives that he failed to report the victim’s injuries because he had an active warrant for his arrest.

According to the arrest affidavit, Gibeault is the biological father of the injured child. The report indicated that the child had a fractured left femur and displaced knee. Ā In addition, she had possible rib fractures, a 2 to 4 week old left lower leg fracture, and an approximate 1 week old right ankle fracture. Ā In this most recent injury, Gibeault claimed to have lost his balance while changing her diaper and leaned forward causing the injury.

On May 25, 2017, detectives charged Gibeault with one count of Aggravated Child Abuse.

Gibeault was returned to the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation continues.
