Pinellas Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a crash involving a deputy. The crash occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 54th Avenue North and 40th Street North in
unincorporated St. Petersburg
According to investigators, Deputy Reeves was traveling eastbound on 54th
Avenue in his 2015 marked Chevrolet Tahoe, with his emergency lights and
sirens activated, responding to a call for assistance.
A 2008 Ford Escape, operated by 67-year-old Chester Dunham of Pinellas Park, was also traveling eastbound and was stopped waiting for traffic . As Deputy Reeves went into the median westbound lanes to pass stopped traffic, Chester Dunham attempted to make left turn into a business.
Investigators say Dunham turned into Deputy Reeves’ patrol vehicle while he was still operating with emergency lights and siren.
Dunham was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Deputy Reeves was also taken to an emergency care clinic for minor injuries.
Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the investigation.
