Police say multiple pedestrians injured in a traffic crash caused by an impaired driver in Redington Shores

A 64-year-old man, Michael Voytek, residing in Jacksonville, Florida, has been taken into custody and charged with DUI with serious bodily injury due to a crash that took place on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at approximately 9:28 p.m. The incident occurred near 17449 Gulf Boulevard in Redington Shores.

According to the authorities, Voytek was responsible for the accident and struck a parked car. The parked vehicle then hit another car, which collided with two pedestrians. Both of the pedestrians suffered significant injuries to their lower extremities and were declared trauma alerts. They were then taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg trauma center for medical treatment.

During the investigation, officers found that Voytek displayed signs of impairment and confessed to having consumed some beers. However, when asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), he was unable to execute them as instructed. Moreover, Voytek refused to provide a breath sample when asked to do so.

Subsequently, Voytek was taken into custody for DUI with serious bodily injuries and later booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
