Resident at Safety Harbor group home stabs caretaker

Pinellas County Deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at 655 Pine Street in Safety Harbor on April 21, 2020 at approximately 11:41 p.m.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, when deputies arrived they discovered the 51 year-old female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to the upper left arm. She told deputies the suspect was a new resident of the group home where she works and lives.

Deputies located the suspect, 38-year-old Erich Perry, a short distance away and took him into custody without incident.

The victim told investigators she was lying on the couch when Erich crept up and began to stab her. She struggled with Erich and he immediately fled the location.

During an interview, Erich admitted to deputies he was trying to stab the victim in the neck and kill her.

He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues.
