TREASURE ISLAND — The Treasure Island Police Department is investigating the death of a scuba diver whose body was recovered Sunday morning off Treasure Island Beach following an extensive multi-day search. The victim has been identified as 41-year-old LeeAnn Fay Sellers.
According to police, officers were first notified on the evening of Friday, July 3, after the woman’s husband reported that she had gone scuba diving alone off Treasure Island Beach earlier that day and had not returned.
The Treasure Island Police Department, Treasure Island Fire Rescue, and several assisting agencies launched an extensive search by land and water, but the diver was not located.
At approximately 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, a fisherman walking along the beach reported seeing what appeared to be a body floating roughly 200 feet offshore. Treasure Island police and fire rescue personnel responded and recovered the body, which was wearing scuba diving equipment.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation remains ongoing. The Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.
