An 18-year-old woman was fatally shot at an Atwater Township home on October 20, 2026. Travis C. Lovett, 21, has been charged with aggravated murder in connection with her death.

Portage County Sheriff Bruce D. Zuchowski said dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 9:20 a.m. reporting a possible shooting inside a residence on State Route 183. Detectives responded and found a woman who appeared to have at least one gunshot wound. She later died from her injuries. Detectives identified the victim as 18-year-old Alice M. Tully.

A criminal complaint filed by the Sheriff’s Office alleges that Lovett shot Tully multiple times with a firearm. Court records list Lovett’s last known address as 11447 Park Blvd. in Seminole, Florida.

Detectives obtained the suspect’s description and identity and issued a BOLO. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s aviation unit assisted in the search. Using automatic license plate reader data, troopers located Lovett’s vehicle traveling south on Interstate 77 in Guernsey County. At approximately 11:01 a.m., troopers stopped the vehicle and arrested Lovett without incident. Troopers took him to the Highway Patrol’s Cambridge headquarters.

Portage County detectives went to the headquarters to question Lovett, but he declined to answer questions or make a statement. After signing a Rule 4, detectives returned him to Portage County and booked him in the county jail.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office credited its collaboration with the Ohio State Highway Patrol with identifying and arresting the suspect. The Patrol said its Intel Unit, ground troopers and aviation assets assisted Portage County investigators. The Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency investigating the homicide.

Waterloo and Southeast school districts were placed on soft lockdown during the search. Authorities lifted the lockdowns after they arrested Lovett.

Tully’s grandmother, Sharon Rowley, said her granddaughter’s girlfriend—not Tully—was the person Lovett had allegedly been stalking. In a post about Tully, she said her granddaughter was shot twice while trying to protect her girlfriend after an intruder entered their home. The grandmother described Tully as a hero and said she would not allow misinformation to obscure what happened, writing that Tully “was trying to protect her.” The girlfriend, also from Seminole, was reportedly stalked by Lovett for a lengthy period of time.

Christy Rose organized a GoFundMe for Alice Tully’s memorial and family support, listing Jason Tully as the beneficiary. The fundraiser says donations will help Alice’s parents with funeral expenses. The organizer describes Alice as a devoted Girl Scout who loved animals and the outdoors, and says she did not know the man accused of killing her and died while trying to protect a friend. When checked, the fundraiser showed $15,180 raised toward a $24,000 goal from 187 donations.
