Subject charged in the St. Petersburg murder of K’Mia Simmons

St. Petersburg Police announced that a subject was charged in the murder of K’Mia Simmons.

The shooting took place at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30th 2021 at 2216 18th Avenue South.

The victim was identified as 21 year-old K’Mia Simmons. She was a passenger riding in a dark Volvo with a male and her two young children, on 22nd St at 18th Ave. S.

Police say that someone fired shots at them from another car.

The driver in the car left Simmons and fled the scene with the two children. The driver was refusing to speak with investigators. The children were not injured.

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, the St. Petersburg Police charged 20 year-old Tyron Jackasal with shooting and killing K’Mia Simmons while she was in a car with her children.

Jackasal was already in jail facing a robbery charge. He is now facing a 2nd degree murder charge as well.
