Tampa Fire Rescue responds to boat fire off Davis Island

Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a reported boat fire in the Seaplane Basin south of Peter O. Knight airport Monday. Crews arrived shortly after 4:30 p.m. and found a roughly 30-ft boat fully involved.

The boat appeared to have been moored in the basin but broke away from its mooring as a result of the fire.

Two occupants of the boat were able to escape and make it to shore at the Davis Islands boat ramp. One of the occupants was transported to Tampa General Hospital as a trauma alert after sustaining injuries related to the fire.

The incident commander utilized land-based engine companies as well as the fire boat “Patriot” to aid in extinguishing the fire.

Crews were able to get the fire under control by 6 p.m. An investigation is underway by the fire marshal’s office to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

There were no other injuries reported at the scene.
