Teen jailed for DUI after crashing his vehicle into a Palm Harbor home and seriously injuring the homeowner

Multiple agencies responded to reports of a vehicle that crashed into a home at 1617 Georgia Avenue in Palm Harbor. The crash occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a vehicle that crashed through the front wall of the home. One of the homeowners, Pierce Wolfinbarger, was in the living room at the time of the crash and was seriously injured. After being extricated from the home, he was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg as a trauma alert. He suffered significant injuries to his lower extremities and is facing multiple surgeries. His two young children, sleeping in an adjacent room, were uninjured.

The driver of the vehicle, 18 year-old Dylan Schultz of Dunedin, was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving with Serious Bodily Injury and Driving Under the Influence (Serious bodily injury).

According to Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol, Schultz rapidly accelerated his vehicle within the residential neighborhood. He failed to stop for a stop sign, at the intersection of 16th Lane and Georgia Avenue, and traveled off the roadway and into the home.

According to the arrest affidavit, Troopers described Schultz as having an unsteady balance, watery and bloodshot eyes along with a strong odor of alcohol from his breath. His Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC) was .146 and .136. A BrAC of .08 or higher is considered impaired to operate a motor vehicle. For drivers under the age of 21, a level of 0.02 percent or more will have their license immediately suspended for six months.
