Members of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred in the area of Gulf Blvd and West Gulf Blvd in Treasure Island at approximately 8:08 PM on Monday, May 4, 2015
According to a press release, Treasure Island Police Officer Daniel Savarese was traveling southbound on Gulf Blvd. in a marked 2013 Ford Explorer. He began to slow down and intended to make a right turn onto West Gulf Blvd. As he began to decrease speed, the driver of a 1998 Ford F-150 sideswiped a 2007 Dodge Charger and hit the rear of Officer Savarese’s Explorer.
The Explorer overturned on its drivers side due to the impact from the F-150 and Officer Savarese was entrapped inside the vehicle. Fire rescue crews responded and extricated Officer Savarese and transported him to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with injuries described as non-life threatening.
The driver of the Ford F-150, identified as 46-year-old Juan DeLeon and his passenger 59-year-old Margaret Garcia, both of Gulfport, were also transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Charger, Jeremy Diez of Seminole, was not injured in the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and the investigation continues.
