Troopers Continue to Investigate Fatality Crash on the Bayside Bridge Saturday Night

The investigation continues into the crash killed Joseph Poblete, age 45 of Clearwater.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the Bayside Bridge at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019.

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) say that Poblete was traveling southbound in a 2003 Toyota SUV. For an unknown reason, troopers say Poblete’s SUV slowed and a 2008 Lexus Sedan driven by 37 year-old Melissa Calderon of Clearwater struck the rear of the SUV.

The SUV rotated and overturned multiple times.

Poblete was transported to Northside Hospital where he later died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

Poblete’s passenger, 34 year-old Laurie Poblete, was transported to Bayfront Health with what troopers are calling serious injures.

Calderon was not injured in the crash.

Troopers say charges, if any, are pending based on the results of the full investigation and that alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
