Troopers investigating overturned gravel truck on SR-56 in Wesley Chapel

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol remain on-scene of an overturned gravel truck at the the intersection of State Road 56 and Cypress Ridge Blvd, just east of Interstate 75 in Pasco County.

The crash occurred on Monday, April 22, 2024, at approximately 11:10 a.m.

A Freightliner gravel truck was struck by a Ford SUV that was changing lanes. The truck overturned and nearly 40 tons of gravel spilled onto the eastbound lanes of State Road 56.

The female driver of the Ford SUV is only identified as a 78-year-old Wesley Chapel resident, and the male driver of the Freightliner is only identified as a 59-year-old Port Richey resident.

Both drivers were injured, and they were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries. Crews are on the scene working to remove the gravel and open the roadway.

Roadway reopened at 1:08pm.
