Troopers say driver impaired when striking and killing pedestrian on US-19 in Palm Harbor

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Palm Harbor.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at US-19 and Innisbrook Drive.

Investigators say that 33 year-old Cheddy Herland Lewis of Holiday was traveling southbound in a dark colored sedan on US-19 just south of Innisbrook Drive.

A 40 year-old male pedestrian from Largo attempted to run westbound across the highway and entered the path of the vehicle.

As a result, a collision occurred between the pedestrian and the vehicle. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries at the crash scene.

Following the crash, Lewis fled the scene, in his vehicle, only to be located by Pinellas Deputies at Alderman Road and Belcher Road within a few minutes.

Lewis was later arrested by FHP Troopers for DUI and delivered to the Pinellas County Jail. Additional charges are pending.
