Two dead after teen driver crashes vehicle into a pole in St. Petersburg

Officers from the St. Peterburg Police Department (SPPD) are investigating a double fatality crash that occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022.

Officers responded to the single vehicle crash in the 4200 block of 11th Avenue South where an SUV hit a pole.

According to SPPD, a black 2013 Buick Enclave, driven by 17 year old Nikia Killens of St. Petersburg, was traveling eastbound on 11th Avenue South.

Passengers in the vehicle were 14 year-old Shaariyah Brown of St. Petersburg and 18 year-old Brice Lewis of St. Petersburg. Killens drove off the roadway and crashed into a power pole in the 4200 block of 11th Avenue South.

Killens was transported to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with minor injuries. Brown was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was pronounced dead. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is still on going.

11th Avenue South was closed at 42nd Street for several hours for the investigation.
