Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD) responded to reports of a person shot outside Jimmy’s Sports Bar at approximately 10:23 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. The bar is located at 3510 34th Street N.
Officers were unable to locate any victims at the scene but were able to find evidence of a shooting. Both wounded men arrived separately and on their own at HCA Florida St. Petersburg General for treatment of their wounds.
One was transferred to the trauma center at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. The second man was flown to Blake Hospital in Sarasota. Police say that both men were being treated non-life threatening injuries.
Officers from SPPD arrested 27 year-old Troy Griffin of Bradenton. Griffin was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on charges of Robbery, Attempted Second Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
According to an arrest affidavit, Griffin pointed a 9 mm handgun at the victim and told him to “give it up.” During a struggle, Griffin fired at least 6 shots striking the victim in the right arm.
Griffin’s robbery charge was in connection with obtaining and having possession of a gold necklace belonging to the victim.
The investigation continues.
