Pedestrian critically injured in crash on 5th Avenue S in St. Petersburg

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department responded to the area of 5th Avenue S and 36th Street at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. Reports indicated that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

Officers on-scene located the pedestrian, a 60 year-old man, and the vehicle involved in the crash.

Investigators say that the driver of an orange Hyundai sedan was traveling eastbound on 5th Avenue South in the median lane. The pedestrian was crossing 5th Avenue South, mid-block. He was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing. He walked into the Hyundai’s path of travel and was struck by the vehicle.

He was transported from the scene to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life threatening injuries. As of Wednesday morning, the pedestrian remains in critical condition.

The investigation continues.
