The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating a vehicle crash that left one person critically injured. The crash occurred at approximately 4:41 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery (5750 49th Street N).
The vehicle, a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass, was traveling northbound in the grass lot of the cemetery. The driver, 59 year-old Sandra Smith of St. Petersburg failed to avoid a mausoleum on the property.
The front left of the vehicle collided with the building, damaging three faces of above ground graves.
The unrestrained passenger in the vehicle, 63 year-old Betty Strickland of St. Petersburg, was critically injured and transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
Smith was not injured and cited for careless driving.
