Woman Critically Injured in St. Petersburg Apartment Fire

At approximately 1:30a.m. on Thursday, August 10th , St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to 2000 Gandy Blvd. N. in St. Petersburg, Florida, for a structure fire.

When fire crews arrived on scene they saw smoke coming from unit 74.  Firefighters had to force entry into the apartment were they found a small fire in the living room and one occupant in the home at the time of the fire, she was found unconscious in her bedroom.

It appears that the occupant was over come by the smoke inside the apartment. Fire crews removed the occupant and she was trauma alerted to Tampa General hospital, were she is being treated and is currently in critical condition.

The occupant did have one cat which did not survive the fire.

The cause of the fire still under investigation.
