ST. PETERSBURG — A 41-year-old woman suffered serious burns after police say another woman deliberately ignited gasoline while the victim was pumping gas at a St. Petersburg gas station Thursday evening.
The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Mobil gas station at 101 40th Avenue North.
According to police, the victim was pumping gasoline into her Volvo SUV when 41-year-old Eleanor Crawford approached her and deliberately ignited the gasoline with a lighter.
The victim’s SUV became engulfed in flames, and she suffered second-degree burns. She was transported to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.
Officers located and arrested Crawford a couple of blocks from the gas station shortly after the incident. She currently is facing charges of Attempted felony murder and Arson.
Investigators said Crawford and the victim did not know each other. A motive for the attack remains unclear.
Pinellas County records indicate over 2 dozen past arrests starting in 2011.
The investigation is ongoing.
