Clearwater police arrest armed robbery suspect moments after second robbery

Clearwater Police officers arrested an armed robbery suspect Monday night just moments after he robbed a Subway at gunpoint.

John Greenlee Jr., age 20 of Clearwater, armed with a loaded gun and wearing a Halloween mask, was spotted by an officer as he walked out of the restaurant, 18419 U.S. 19 N., at 9:46 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021.

After being ordered to lay on the ground by the officer, Greenlee got up and ran but was tackled shortly thereafter. He was then taken into custody and booked in to the Pinellas County Jail.

Fifteen minutes before the Subway robbery, he tried to rob the Speedway gas station located at 2577 Harn Blvd. He was unsuccessful.

Greenlee was charged with two counts of armed robbery, along with carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest without violence.

Greenlee remains in the Pinellas County Jail.
