Wife Charged with 2nd Degree Murder in Stabbing Death of her Husband at an Apartment Complex in Unincorporated Seminole

When detectives interviewed Mary Georgia Pender-Michielson, she admitted to stabbing her husband Bruce Michielson in the chest with a large kitchen knife during the domestic dispute. Detectives say Mary Georgia Pender-Michielson gave investigators multiple inconsistent statements as to her account of what took place.

Mary Georgia Pender-Michielson claimed the stabbing was in self-defense however, detectives concluded the evidence did not support the justifiable use of deadly force towards her husband.

At the time of the stabbing, Mary Georgia Pender-Michielson and her husband Bruce Michielson were the only two persons at their private residence.

Witnesses confirmed there was a history of domestic violence between Mary Georgia Pender-Michielson and Bruce Michielson.

Mary Georgia Pender-Michielson was arrested on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at West Bay Largo Medical Center and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident. She was and charged with murder in the second degree.

At approximately 3:23 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 a call was received by Pinellas Regional 911 Center.

The hysterical female caller initiated a response by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Sunstar Paramedics and Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue.

Deputies responded to the 911 call originating from 9500 Hamlin Boulevard #1206 at the Imperial Village Apartments.

Detectives say the female caller was 52 year-old Mary Pender-Michielson and reported her husband 41-year-old Bruce Michielson sustained a knife wound to his chest during a domestic related argument.

When deputies arrived they found Bruce Michielson unresponsive. Medics from Sunstar Paramedics and Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue requested an air transport.

Michielson was transported via Bayflite to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was pronounced deceased at 4:40 a.m.

Mary Pender-Michielson was transported via Sunstar ambulance to a local hospital for a non-trauma related medical complaint.

Next of kin has been notified.

This continues to be an open and on-going investigation and no further information is available at this time.
