Firefighters Free Man Trapped Up To His Chest in Mud Pit at Pinellas Park Construction Site

Firefighters were dispatched to a construction site in Pinellas Park at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2019.

The call was in reference to a man trapped up to his chest in a mud pit at a construction site on 43rd Street just north of 118th Avenue in Pinellas Park. It is reported that the man was located by a construction worker at the site where an overpass is being build for the Gateway Expressway.

Firefighters from Pinellas Park Fire Rescue along with members of the Pinellas County Technical Rescue team worked for about one hour to free the man.

He was suffering from hypothermia and other medical consequences of being trapped in the mud for an unknown period of time.

Bayflite was requested and almost on-scene when Sunstar began to transport the man to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. His condition is now known at this time.
