Motor scooter rider seriously injured in Pinellas Park crash

Officers from the Pinellas Park Police Department are currently on-scene of a serious injury crash. The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 62nd Avenue N and 39th Street.

The crash involved a Nissan Maxima and a motor scooter. The rider of the motor scooter, 33 year-old Jared Hernandez of St. Petersburg, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Investigators say that the crash occurred when the driver of the Nissan, 27 year-old Danea Coleman of St. Petersburg, made a left turn from eastbound 62nd Ave to travel north on 39th St.  As a result of the turn, Coleman violated the right of way of Jared Hernandez, who struck the side of the vehicle.

Speed or impairment are not factors in this crash, police say.

Coleman has been issued a citation for the violation.

A helmet was located on scene but unknown if Hernandez was wearing it at the time of the crash.
