Officers were notified at approximately 11:44 a.m. on April 16 that the infant was unresponsive. Resuscitation efforts were attempted, but the child was pronounced deceased at 12:26 p.m.

Detectives determined that Daniels and Kurant were the sole caregivers for the child. Investigators said the injuries were unexplained and that the child had previously been documented as DCF as having no injuries as recently as April 10.
