Subject in custody after a crime spree starting at the Holiday Inn Express in Bay Pines

Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office apprehended 38 year-old Donald Rose of South Carolina after a crime spree that started at a Holiday Inn Express Hotel. The hotel is located at 4816 100th Way in the Bay Pines area. Deputies were dispatched to a domestic incident shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, 2021.

According to arrest documentation, Rose was driven from South Carolina to the Holiday Inn Express by an associate that was visiting family in the area. While in the hotel room, Rose stole keys to a 2020 black Dodge Charger striking two woman in the process, in the face and arms. The women were unable to keep Rose from taking the keys as he pushed them to the ground.

Rose fled the scene in the stolen Dodge Charger and drove erratically throughout the adjoining Walmart parking lot. While attempting to leave the area, he struck a Jeep SUV and crashed into the bushes in the parking lot. Deputies arrived on scene and placed spike strips behind the tires as he revved the engine of the Dodge. Despite being placed at gunpoint, Rose backed out of the bushes, fled the scene driving along Frontage Road toward Seminole Boulevard and 50th Avenue.

As Rose approached Seminole Boulevard, he exited the vehicle and ran across Seminole Boulevard but was quickly apprehended by deputies while resisting arrest.

Rose was transported to St. Petersburg General Hospital for a medical evaluation and ultimately booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

Rose is facing the following charges:
Grand Theft Auto
Strong Arm Robbery
Felony Battery
Leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage
Resisting an officer without violence
Fleeing and eluding

Rose is a registered sexual offender in South Carolina due to a conviction in April of 1998 for sexual conduct with a minor. He has a number of other arrests in Orangeburg County South Carolina. He was most recently released from the South Carolina Department of Corrections in December of 2020.
